San Francisco: Day 1 Chinatown

We arrived in San Francisco at 9:00am and quickly made our way to the hotel where they stored our bags while we headed out on the town. The bus ride from the BART to the hotel was interesting to say the least. A whole slew of Chinese charged the door to get onto the bus!! We couldn't believe it, the bus was packed!!! Standing room only and we had our suitcases with us. Once the bus got to Chinatown almost 70% of the riders got off, and they tried to de-bus in the same manner that they got on. People pushed and nudged each other as if it was a race to get off.
After dropping our bags with the bellman at the hotel we headed up Columbus Ave and got some great food at Pat's Cafe.

After lunch we walked up Columbus Ave to Stockton and found ourselves in Chinatown. Lisa and I had not been here in over 20 years and we wanted to check it out. Wow is this place busy!!!

The buses through here are packed as are the streets. People push their way around like it's no big deal. Summer had a tough time with this as she is not used to it.

We stopped in a few shops and found a lot of stuff we did not need. These shops are packed with all sorts of stuff almost from floor to ceiling. I don't know what's in the air, but there was a rather strong aroma lingering everywhere we went.

From there we headed up to Nob Hill to see a The Huntington Hotel that we stayed at over 20 years ago on a family vacation. The park across the street has a nice fountain with a Cathedral next door.

We then headed back towards the hotel so we could get checked in and get off our feet.
